Famine-Genocide in Ukraine Commemoration

In the evening, at 5 PM, clergy and faithful gathered in the Greek Catholic Archcathedral in Przemysl to pray for victims of famines in Ukraine (Holodomor) in 1921-23, 1932-33 and 1946-47. Prayers were preceeded by a solemn performance of schoolchildren who told about the tragedy of the Ukrainian nation. Sebsequently, Abp Eugeniusz Popowicz, the Metropolitan of Przemysl – Warsaw; Abp Emeritus Jan Martyniak; Bp Stanislaw Jamrozek, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Przemysl; Rev. Mitred Bogdan Stepan, pastor of the Greek Catholic Archcathedral parish; Rev. Jan Tarapacki, the Dean of Przemysl Deanery; Rev. Pawel Rohun, the Chancellor of the Greek Catholic Curia in Przemysl; Rev. Krzysztof Blazejewski, the pastor of the Jaroslaw parish; Fr. Dymitr Harasym, the hegumen of OSBM in Przemysl; Rev. Dymitr Leszko, a vicar of the Przemysl parish and Rev. Mieczyslaw Rusin, the pastor of the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Przemysl celebrated panakhyda (a solemn service).
After the panakhyda, clergy accompanied by the faithful went to the monument in memory of the victims of famines in Ukraine and lit candles.
The event was also participated by Robert Choma, the President of Przemysl; Aleksander Baczyk, the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Poland; Piotr Pipka, the headmaster of Rev. Markian Shashkevych School Complex in Przemysl; and many other representatives of adjacent parishes, cultural and social organizations and a lot of faithful.
The panakhyda was sung by the Archcathedral choir conducted by Jaroslaw Wujcik.
