On the 3rd September 2016, Lviv’ welcomed the Miraculous Icon of the Virgin Mary „The Gate of Mercy”. The icon, present at the official inauguration of the Year of Mercy at the St. Peter’s Square in Rome, is the official symbol of the Jubilee Year of Mercy in the Catholic Church.
The icon’s name, „The Gate of Mercy”, refers to the Virigin Mary, who in Her constant advocacy in front of Jesus, opens the door of God’s Mercy for a human.
The icon was welcomed by Rev. Mitred Roman Kravchyk, the pastor of the St. George Archcathedral in Lviv’, together with his parishoners, Rev, Bogdan Prach, Ph.D., the rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University, who in 1990-1997 was the pastor of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Greek Catholic parish in Jaroslaw, and numerous priests and representatives of Greek Catholic Religious Orders.
